「 観世音菩薩普門品 」 と絵画： その３

訳文：
また、ある人が、有罪、もしくは冤罪によって、足枷や鎖につながれていたとしても、観世音菩薩の名を称すれば、すべてが悉く破壊してしまって、即座に解脱を得ます。
この広い国土には悪い賊がたくさん居ります。もし、ある商主が商人を率いて重宝を運ぶ際に、その隊が険路を通過する時、その中に一人が、このように唱えるとしましょう。
「みなさま方、怖れることはありません。全員で、まさに一心に観世音菩薩の名号を称しましょう。この菩薩は「無畏」を施して私たちの恐れを解いていただけます。もし、みんなで、この み名を称せば、賊がいても難を逃れられます」と。
全商人、これを聞いて、一緒に声を発して「南無 観世音菩薩」。その名を称するが故に、即座に解脱を得るのです。
無盡意さん、観世音菩薩のすばらしき力、高大なこと、このようなものです。

読み下し文：
設い、また人あり。もしくは罪あり、もしくは罪なし、忸械枷鎖（ちゅうがいかさ）
にその身を検繋（けんげ）
せられんに、観世音菩薩の名を称せば、皆、悉く断壊
（だんね）
して、即ち解脱を得ん。
もし、三千大千国土、中に満つる怨賊（おんぞく）
、一商主 有りて、諸商人を将（ひき）
いて重宝を齎持
（さいじ）
し、険路を経過。その中に一人、この唱言（しょうごん）
作さん。「諸善男子、恐怖を得ることなかれ。
汝等、まさに一心に観世音菩薩の名号を称すべし。
この菩薩、能く無畏
（むい）
を以って衆生に施さる汝等、もし、称名せば、この怨賊において、まさに解脱を得べし」
衆
（もろもろ）
の商人 聞きて、倶（とも）
に声を発して言わん。「南無観世音菩薩」。その名を称するが故に、即ち解脱を得ん。 無盡意、観世音菩薩摩訶薩、威神の力、巍巍
（ぎぎ）
たること、かくの如し。
白文：
設復有人 若有罪 若無罪 忸械枷鎖 檢繋其身称観世音菩薩名者 皆悉断壞 即得解脱 若三千大千国土 満中怨賊 有一商主 将諸商人
齎持重宝 経過険路 其中一人 作是唱言
諸善男子 勿得恐怖
汝等 応当一心 称観世音菩薩名号
是菩薩 能以無畏 施於衆生
汝等 若称名者 於此怨賊 当得解脱
衆商人聞 倶発声言 南無観世音菩薩
称其名故 即得解脱 無盡意 観世音菩薩摩訶薩 威神之力 巍巍如是
English:
If someone, guilty or innocent, is shackled and chained,
and if he or she chants the name of the
Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara
all will be destroyed and instantly freed. There are many wicked bandits and robbers in this vast land.
Suppose a merchant master is leading a caravan carrying treasures,
as they are just passing a dangerous valley, One of them chants,
"Namu, Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara
By chanting this name, they were immediately liberated. Mr. Akshayamati, such is the wonderful power of the
Bodhisattva Mahâsattva Avalokitesvara
and if he or she chants the name of the
Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara
( kanzeon/ Guan Shi Yin )
,
all will be destroyed and instantly freed. There are many wicked bandits and robbers in this vast land.

Let us single-mindedly praise the name of
Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara

robbers come, we will be able to escape."
When the entire caravan heard this, they all said the name in unison,Let us single-mindedly praise the name of
Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara
( kanzeon/ Guan Shi Yin )
. This Bodhisattva will give us 'fearlessness' and release our fears.
If we praise the name of this Bodhisattva, even if bandits or
robbers come, we will be able to escape."
