「 観世音菩薩普門品 」 と絵画： その２

訳文：
もし、非常に多くの人々があって、金銀・瑠璃・硨磲・碼碯・珊瑚・琥珀・真珠 等の宝を求めて大海に乗り出したところで、その船が暴風雨に流され、羅刹鬼（ラークシャシー） の国に漂流したとしましょう。しかし、その中に一人でも観世音菩薩を称名する者があれば、この人たちは、全員、鬼の難から逃れられます。この訳あって『観世音』という名前なのです。
また、もし、ある人が害を受けようとしている、まさにその時に、観世音菩薩を名を称すれば、害を与えようとしている者たちが握る刀は次々に折れてしまい、そして、その人は助かることでしょう。
もし、この広い世界の中に満ち満ちている夜叉（ヤクシャ） や羅刹（ラークシャサ） が、人々を悩まそうと やって来たとしても、観世音菩薩の称名を聞けば、この諸悪は、その悪の眼を以て視ることができず、ましてや、害を加えることもできなくなるのです。

もし、百千万億の衆生 有りて、金銀・瑠璃（るり）
・硨磲（しゃこ）
・碼碯（めのう）
・珊瑚・琥珀・真珠 等の宝を求んがために大海に入らんに、たとい、黒風、その船舫を吹きて、羅刹鬼
（らせつき）
国に漂堕せんも、その中に、もし、乃至一人 有りて、観世音菩薩の名を称せば、
この諸人等、皆、羅刹の難の解脱を得ん。
この因縁を以って『観世音』と名付く。 もし、また、人 有り。まさに害さるるに臨みて、観世音菩薩の名を称せば、
かの執
（と）
る所の刀杖（とうじょう）
、尋（つ）
いで段々に壊（お）
れ、解脱を得ん。
もし、三千大千国土、中に満つる 夜叉・羅刹 来りて人を悩まさんと欲するも、その観世音菩薩の名を称するを聞かば、
この諸悪鬼、なお、悪眼
（あくげん）
を以って、これを視ること能わず。況や、また害を加えんや。
白文：
若有 百千万億衆生 為求 金銀 瑠璃 硨磲 碼碯珊瑚 琥珀 真珠 等宝 入於大海
仮使 黒風吹其船舫 飄墮 羅刹鬼国
其中若有乃至一人 称観世音菩薩名者 是諸人等
皆得解脱 羅刹之難 以是因縁 名観世音 若復有人 臨当被害 称観世音菩薩名者
彼所執刀杖 尋段段壞 而得解脱 若三千大千国土 満中夜叉羅刹 欲来悩人
聞其称 観世音菩薩名者
是諸悪鬼 尚不能以悪眼視之 況復加害
English:
Suppose there were many people who went out on the ocean
in search of treasures such as gold, silver, lapis lazuli, tridacninae,
agates, coral, amber, pearls and others,
and the ship was cast away on an island of Rakshashis (an evil spirit)
by a vehement, untimely gale.
But if even one of them claims to
the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara
all of these them will be able to escape the difficulties of the demons.
This is why the name " Avalokitesvara
is used. Also, when someone is about to be killed, if he or she implores
Bodhisattva Mahâsattva Avalokitesvara
the swords of the executioners will be broken one after another,
and that person will be saved. There are many many Yakshas and Rakshasa (evil spirits)
in this universe. When they come and try to annoy people,
if they hear the people implore the name of
Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara
they will not be able to see with their evil eyes,
nor will they be able to harm people.
